little post

So last two days I've been feeling somewhat better and it's just led to mad makages.

But then I realized I was all stressed thinking of all the photos I had to take.

I decided I'm just gonna do a series of mini posts every couple days to catch up and not stress out so damned much.

Or end up on an 8-hour photoshop marathon driving myself crazy blurring out lint and bits of shine until I'm hallucinating.

Oh I have news!

In June I'm going to Uruguay. Hadn't said anything because I thought there was more time between April and June somehow.

That's why they call me No-Temporal-Sense Rios.

Also y'all- polymer is hard. You have to put hours into it to make it interesting and still then people sell the beads for next to nothing so.

Don't think I got it all figured out. I just keep on messing with stuff because I'm never satisfied and it's easier than moving from where I'm sitting.

Oh my god, that's the secret to my success- my stationary nature!

Y'all think I'm kidding.

Guess this wasn't such a short post after all.

I realize I might have given the impression last post that there was snot and influenza all over my breads. That is not the case.

I wash my hands so much I have to sleep in gloves with moisturizer in them sometimes. Just so you know.

I had to break for some kitteh rejection.
If you want this and a buncha stupid shit that made me chortle, you can go look at my tumblr I guess.
Oh look! More earrings by Emmanuelle using my beads!hereAnd here
So, when my mom hears I've blogged she rushes to her iphone, looks it up and scrolls right down to the end to see if there's a cute gif.
So here's another one for Mom.

I'm sick y'all.

You know what's not sexy? Feeling like the anthropomorphic embodiment of over-heated mucus.

Guess I tried to do too much on too little sleep. The takeaway is to never leave my house again.

While I done been sick, I've been playing with a shit ton of dried out poly Shipwreck sent me.

I meant to mix it with non-dried out clay, but I ran out.

And since I dont have the wherewithal to leave my house or even decide to be lazy and just order it all even thought there's a Michael's 3 blocks away, I've just been painstakingly mixing thin slices of the dried stuff with mineral oil to make it workable.

Resulting in 10x more work for me oh well.

So anyways, all the clay I got is crazy bright so I'm experimenting with the mix of neutral/grey with neon. The results are nothing like what I do in jewelry, I don't think.

But fuckit, I find it intriguing.

The colorway is very contemporary and the stratum thing is primordial. Yeah.

It's based on this tutorial, part of a little pack of tutes I got for the faux raku one:

So yeah wanna hear about my runny nose, headache and fever?

When you're sick you kinda feel high as well. And it's hard to see clearly so all these beads are sort of surprises that I have no control over.

But plus I discovered that white paint adds more details to some that I felt were too simple. Maybe guilder's would be easier because then I have to polish all the white paint off it's a whole thing.

That one there has little glass microbeads all worked in. Just cuz.

What else? Some more meteorites.

That I made with rock salt.

Here's some early attempts at the extruded Jupiter beads that I didn't like so I turned them into faceted beads.

Which the extruder is this thing by the way:
I'm an idiot I shoulda gotten this one with the turn thing:
Cuz sometimes you have to push soooo hard... But you know me I had to go for cheap.

Here's what became of some early fails.

And a couple sets of wheels with inclusions.

I'm having trouble keeping myself from buying every polytute out there.

Even though I know most of the info is findable for free on youtube and stuff.

There is something about having it handed to you on a platter.

I know y'all are used to seeing jewelry and I thank you for indulging me on this new obsession. I do have some jewelry projects laying around but right now I'm just amazed I was able to operate my camera through all the snot. And I have to insist again that if you had a question I didn't get to either here or in convos to just ask again, I loose track. All answers are probably findable in past posts. Which you can also peruse if you miss the jewelry anyways.
Look what Emmanuelle made with some of my beads! Plus a ton of other cool shit. (Someone else sent pix of something made with my tutes that I was gonna share and now I can't friggin find them anywhere.)
And I haven't been answering convos from feeling sick. Somehow it's too much effort even though I was able to put this post together. Responding to others is harder than just spewing shit out I guess?
imageGotta go sling my snot around some more.

It went really well.

Mr. D thinks I'm such a smarty pants now.
And this is what it feels like to be back in my own bed-
Niece Marcela is here for a week and says she wants to be an "autis like Mawina" because she too wants to stay home everyday, go to bed late and sleep all morning. Oh, and also make "pwetty things."
At some point she said she'd also have a baby and I said she couldn't because artists are poor and babies are expensive. She rolled her eyes and said, "You don't buy babies." She won that round.

So now y'all have to wait a while til I make any new things. So there was no point to this. That hedgehog tho.

Visiting Lecturer, Professor Fanci of Shimmery Ballsacks University

My little uni visit has its own facebook page.

Presentation by Chicago artist, blogger and Etsian, Fanciful Devices
Oh and underneath this pic, where I guess an artist bio would go, is my friggin' about from here on my right sidebar. So very important information about how I enjoy sitting and lying down, and forcing Mr. Devices to laugh at my jokes.

thingedy thang thangs

As my uni visit gets closer, my procrastination gets even fancier.

Here's ten million caps.
Plus I'm trying out interference powders, instead of paints. Dunno if there's any difference.
So I've learned beads don't get re-pinned as much as finished jewelry does on pinterest. Proly doesn't matter. Or I haven't been discovered by bead pinners yet. Or no one loves me I guess would be the other option.

Someone asked about this wire. Its actually a buncha bangles from ebay. Looked like this sorta:

As you can see I got a real ladyboner for twirly wire on this batch. I might have to chill with that.
Showed y'all these a while ago but they were so crazy thin. So I thickened them with a layer of translucent liquid polymer within to strengthen them up a bit.

Look at these big mamajamas.
And do you see how the one in the bottom is different? Like not as sharp on the details? Its encased in a layer of liquid polymer as well. Cuz reasons.

Here's a different big momma set. Marmoset.

These rings have wire in the core, then polymer. Then I grabbed a bunch of headpins and used them to poke a texture. This is translucent clay, which gives it that grey milky look. I then dry brushed some black acrylic for texture then brushed on some interference blue powder and sealed. And then added a random tiny gold leaf tag cuz reasons.

So lots of the texture in this set was also individually poked with wire or a pen.

Texture porn. Don't know why I went with so many hand shots. Thought it might help with size reference but actually my hands seem to make the beads look tiny. And I have smallish hands. Something about macro, idk.
The wheel is certainly one of my go-to shapes.
And the set below I decided to throw in this lucite flower. I seem to like including one misfit item into each set.
So my Mom was reading news on her phone and it said they caught the teen that defaced 12 statues. And mom read 'defaced' as 'defecated,' cuz that's my mom. Then she was watching the news and saw they mentioned that same arrest but in this case they said he graffitied 12 statues. Mom thought to herself that they were just too delicate to mention the poo. When she looked back at her phone and realized her mistake she laughed so hard she scared the cat. So she's telling me this and I reminded her of the time when I was little when I explained to her what it meant to moon someone. She was sorta traumatized by this cuz it stayed with her. That summer when we rented a houseboat we were going by a sign that said "No mooring on this pier" and she goes, "Does that mean you can't poo here?"
Ok, catching up on comment questions I forgot to address: no, Mom doesn't have a new kitty yet because we have to wait til the spring batch is in. The spring kitty harvest. Cuz apparently cats don't reproduce in the dead of winter, they're clever that way. And we can't get a grown cat or Chiquita will attack it. But we've been to the shelter and ... don't wanna talk about it.
Also someone asked if this is a cap or an imprint. It's an imprint directly on the polymer.
Das all, bai.
